With a wide variety of performance backgrounds and skills, our improv teachers are some of the best in the business.

Casem AbuLughod has been performing with the Monkey Business Institute since late 2011. He has trained at the PIT in New York, HUGE Theater in Minneapolis, and has a Master’s degree in Applied Theatre from the City University of New York. He loves introducing folks to the joys of improv and acts and directs around the Madison area.

Brad Knight is the co-founder of Monkey Business Institute. He has been a professional improviser for 25 years and has taught improv classes for over 20 of those. He has designed many of the Monkey Business Institute classes. He loves to teach. Some people call him the Yoda of Improv. He feels he’s more like Chewbacca.

“Craig Johnson has been making a fool of himself in front of people for nearly thirty years: twenty years as a stage actor and director, followed by eight years of improv with MBI. There was a two year break between theater and improv, but still, let’s call it a solid three decades. He has been teaching improv playshops since 2012, and improv classes since 2014.

Sarah has been improvising for almost 10 years, and loving every minute of it. As an improv teacher, her guiding principles are that students will have fun, feel connected and supported, and have many chances to surprise themselves.

Andrew Rohn has been accompanying MBI on keyboards since 2008, or sometime around there. He started the band V05, Madison’s disco superstars. He has written several musicals with his wife Catherine Capellaro, including Walmartopia, which went Off-Broadway in 2007. He kind of hates modern musical theater, unless it’s made up on the spot.

John Steeno has been improvising since 2003 and with Monkey Business Institute since 2011. He is the creator of the MBI Sketch Writing program, and has been teaching for MBI throughout his tenure with the company. John believes in your talents, and he can’t wait to help you start believing in them, too.
