After 10+ years of running classes, Monkey Business Institute has hundreds of students who have graduated our improv school by completing all five levels of classes. So we have decided to start a series of “Master Level” classes covering various topics as designed by our most experienced teachers or requested by students.
This class learned about improv genres and styles. Have you ever had that panicked feeling that you’re supposed to improvise a film noir scene, but you have no idea what that is? Or that you are very comfortable improvising a western, but are stumped by spaghetti western? This class was designed to help us feel comfortable improvising in a specific style or genre. We started with the premise that we all know something about just about every genre. Then we learned some specifics from that genre to help us be true to the form.
